NT Euthanasia Collection

Charles Darwin University

Project Description

The Arafura Research Archive at CDU holds a significant collection of papers relating to the Rights of the Terminally Ill Act 1995 (NT) and the Commonwealth Parliament’s overturning of the Act in 1997. The Northern Territory was the first jurisdiction in the world to explicitly legalise euthanasia. As such, there is significant research interest in this material.

The project aims to:
· identify and digitise the most significant items from the collection;
· house digitised items and their metadata in the University’s digital repository, eSpace;
· create an engaging and interactive online exhibition which brings these items together to facilitate research and dialogue.
