Project Description

The aim of this project is to develop and put in place systems to facilitate the management, sharing and re-use of data from data-intensive processes at UTS. The project is comprised of three activities.
The first (DC18A) will provide metadata capture at data acquisition time from the Microbial Imaging Facility's microscopes.
The second (DC18B) will extend the Labshare system software to support remote access to equipment, acquired data, and the recording of metadata, by researchers.
The third (DC18C) will provide access to processed Mars imagery data and associated metadata for researchers in the Planetary Sciences.

Data Type:

DC18A – Microbial Imaging including following instruments: Nikon Ti inverted epifluorescent microscope Nikon A1 laser scanning confocal microscope. DC18B - The second will extend the Labshare system software to support remote access to equipment, acquired data, and the recording of metadata, by researchers. DC18C - The third will provide a web interface to the USGS' Isis suite of planetary science utilities.

High Level Software Functionality:

DC18A – Microbial Imaging Facility Project supports accessibility, scheduling, management, monitoring and reporting of microscope sessions on the following instruments:
Nikon Ti inverted epifluorescent microscope
Nikon A1 laser scanning confocal microscope

DC18B:
Browse and search for test rigs.
Reserve time on rigs ahead of schedule.
AAF authentication
Remote control of rig
Reporting and monitoring of rig metadata
Generation of RIF-CS metadata and transfer to metadata store.

DC18C:
Browse ISIS utilities by mission, category or keyword.
Add session data to ISI utilities
Provide a home page for user generated datasets
Browse datasets by spatial coverage, instrument or keyword

DC18 Middleware (Coataglue):
Crosswalk metadata and payloads from DC18 subprojects into ReDBox
Provide the ability to add further data sources to the data capture / research data catalogue system
Allow data librarians and managers to build templates for data descriptions based on captured metadata
Allow data payloads to be added to Fedora Repository
Provide landing pages for datasets with metadata from the research data catalogue and links to payloads in the Repository
